No, Reiki is a technique, one of many we have available, to work on our healing, and support others in their healing. Reiki is practiced by people from all walks of life.
Can I learn to do Reiki myself?
Yes, everybody can learn to connect with these energies. It just takes some time and dedication; practice makes perfect.
Do I need to take a Reiki course to learn it?
Everyone is able to connect with the energies and use these for healing. In fact, there are many more ways than just Reiki to do that. Reiki is one way that can assist you to work with these energies more efficiently. A Reiki instructor can help you in this process; just like a language teacher can help you to learn a language.

Why do people charge money for Reiki courses or treatments? Isn't the energy universal and free?
Yes, the energy belongs to everyone and cannot be measured with money. However, a Reiki instructor or practitioner dedicates a lot of time and effort to provide treatments or courses. It is only natural that he/she receives something for that in return.
How can I find a Reiki practitioner or instructor?
You could check in your local newspapers, bulletin boards at shops with ecological products. You can also try to search on the internet; there are many listings of Reiki instructors and practitioners.
What Reiki course is the best?
This depends very much on you. We all have different needs and some methods may work better for you than others. That is way you need to listen to your intuition and find a way that suits you best. Make sure you feel comfortable and confident with the Reiki instructor you choose. And remember: there is no such thing as silly questions. Ask whatever you want to ask, and evaluate the answers you receive.
